VED Analysis

The VED Analysis is based on the criticality of the items. If the items are arranged in the descending order of their criticality viz.

V denotes Vital items,
E denotes Essential items
D denotes Desirable items, then more attention is paid to the V-type items.

• Vital items – such items are those items which when required are not available, they make the whole system inoperative.
• Essential items: Those items which when demanded, are not available and reduce the efficiency of the system are called essential items.
• Desirable items: Desirable items are such that – even if they are not available, they neither stop the system nor reduce its efficiency, but it will be good if they are present in the systems.
