What is EDC?
What is Electronic Devices and Circuits (EDC)?
In studying solid state electronic devices we are interested primarily in the electrical behavior of solids. We will also come to know that the transportation of charge through a metal or semiconductor depends not only on the properties of the electron but also on the arrangement of atoms in the solid. We shall investigate some of the important properties of electrons, with special emphasis on two points.
- The electronic structure of atoms
- The interaction of atoms and electrons with excitation, such as absorption and emission of light
The basic atomic properties of matter leading to discrete electronic energy levels in atoms, atomic energy levels are spread into energy bands in a crystal. This band structure allows us to distinguish between an insulator, a semiconductor and a metal.
Down below are some important concepts related to EDC that will be beneficial for the aspiring EC engineering aspirants:

FAQs:
1. What are metals, semiconductors, and insulators?
Ans. Metals are the substances that are naturally found below the earth.
Insulators are poor conductors of heat and electricity.
A substance that holds the property of both conductor and insulators are known as semiconductors.
2. What is BJT and its configuration?
Ans. A bipolar junction transistor is a type of transistor that uses both electrons and electron holes as charge carriers. Three BJT configurations are:
- Common Base (CB),
- Common Emitter (CE)
- Common Collector (CC)
3. What is common base emitter configuration?
Ans. Most transistor circuits have the emitter terminal common to both input and output. Such is called Common-Emitter (CE) or grounded-emitter.
4. What is FET and its characteristics?
Ans. The Field Effect Transistor (FET) is a three terminal device used for a variety of applications. The three terminals of an FET are named as drain (D), Source (S) and Gate (G) out of which the gate acts as a controlling terminal.
