Control Section

  • A control section is the section in which a fixed relationship exists between the discharge and the depth of  flow. In addition, control section controls the flow such that the transmission of the effect of changes in the flow condition is restricted either in upstream direction or downstream direction depending upon the state of flow in channel.
  • Each GVF profile has at least one control section.
  • Subcritical flows have control sections at the downstream and while supercritical flows have control sections at the upstream end.
  • The critical depth is also a control point. However, it is effective in a flow profile which changes from subcritical to supercritical flow.Controls in GVF
