Applications of Hydraulic Jump
- Hydraulic jump primarily serves as an energy dissipator to dissipate the excess energy of flowing water downstream of hydraulic structures such as spillways and sluice gates. Hydraulic jump may also be used:
- To mix chemicals used for water purification or wastewater treatment.
- To aerate the polluted stream.
- To desalinate of sea water.
- To aid intense mixing and gas transfer in chemical processes.
- To maintain subcritical flow downstream of hydraulic structures.
